Delta Police closed off Tsawwassen neighbourhood

Delta Police are responding to an unfolding incident in Tsawwassen and have evacuated some homes in the affected area.

Police say they were called to a house along Gilchrist Drive around 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

The closed off area stretches from 7th Avenue and Gilchrist Drive at 6th Avenue. 6th Avenue is also closed at 54th Street.

The area has been secured from pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Delta Police are asking the public to stay away from the area and find an alternate route.

According to Mike Whiteley, Staff Sergeant with Delta Police, officers received reports of a possible barricaded person in a residence in that area.

Several people called 1130 NewsRadio, reporting it looks like a stand off between police and the barricaded person.
