Good Samaritan goes to great lengths to stop Port Coquitlam toy store robbery

The owner of a Port Coquitlam business says he is grateful to a Good Samaritan who was captured on camera trying to stop a robbery at his store early Friday morning.
Chris Walton, owner of Hunters Toys and Collectibles, says he couldn’t believe the extreme lengths the unknown man went to while trying to stop thieves as they were filling their vehicle with goods stolen from the store.
“I’m deeply grateful for what he tried to do,” Walton said.
“At the same time, I’m very worried that he might have any injuries.”
Video surveillance footage taken shortly before 6:30 a.m. shows the man walking toward the store carrying a cup of coffee with his phone out, appearing to take a photo. One of the thieves pulls out a can of bear spray and douses the man, who initially runs away. He then comes back a few seconds later while speaking on his phone, and he gets sprayed again. This time he doesn’t turn away but instead hops on top of the vehicle’s hood and then onto the roof, still speaking on his phone. The thieves start driving away with the man clinging to the roof of the SUV. He spills his coffee in the process.
The thieves made off with a number of newly released remote-controlled and die-cast cars worth thousands of dollars.
Walton said he would like the Good Samaritan to reach out to him.
“I haven’t had the pleasure of talking with him so I would feel better, even if he reached out and said, ‘I’m good,’” he said.
“I would love to compensate him for his coffee, his time, and much more.”
He says police are investigating the theft.
