HWY 99 detour planned near George Massey Tunnel Wednesday

As part of the Steveston Interchange Project, drivers might run into delays on Highway 99 in Richmond overnight Wednesday.
Highway 99 will be interrupted in both directions and traffic will be diverted to the left lane on- and off-ramps before Steveston Highway starting at 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The work will continue until 5 a.m. Thursday to allow crews to move a crane across Highway 99.
Project organizers say the new five-lane Steveston Interchange Project is a key part of the plan to improve travel along the Highway 99 corridor.
“As part of the broader program, the interchange will integrate seamlessly with the new eight-lane, immersed tube tunnel being built under the Fraser River to replace the George Massey Tunnel.”
A provincial notice says the closure will not affect east- and westbound traffic on Steveston Highway. It says a second diversion may be required overnight Thursday as well.
