Northbound lanes closed on Coquihalla due to sinkhole; southbound lanes also affected

A sinkhole discovered by the B.C. Ministry of Transportation has some lanes on parts of the Coquihalla Highway closed, and drivers are advised to choose a different route.
The sinkhole was found Thursday evening in the northbound slow lane about 80 kilometres south of Merritt.
The northbound lanes are closed and crews have also closed the southbound fast lane in the area as a precaution.
The southbound slow lane remains open.
The ministry says the sinkhole appears to have been the result of nearby pipeline boring.
“There is no timeline for repairs or reopening,” it said in a statement.
“Drivers are asked to choose alternative routes, such as Highway 1 or Highway 3, and should expect delays with the additional volume on those routes and drive accordingly.”
