Port Moody police arrest naked man after alleged assault on a stranger

The Port Moody Police Department says it has arrested a naked man who assaulted a stranger and then brandished a knife Saturday evening.
Const. Sam Zacharias tells 1130 NewsRadio they received multiple 911 calls after the incident, which began at Rocky Point Park, just before 10 p.m.
“What was reported was a male had allegedly assaulted a stranger, another male that saw the park, and the suspect was not wearing clothes and was naked,” Zacharias said.
“From there, the suspect allegedly fled into a nearby restaurant at Rocky Point Park, where it was reported that he grabbed a knife that he found there and brandished it in a manner that was threatening and frightening towards other people inside the restaurant.”
He says they got to the area within two minutes of being called and took the man into custody.
“Initial information suggests that the suspect may have been intoxicated at the time, and we’re trying to determine if there’s also a mental health component,” he said.
“Nevertheless, very concerning.”
The man remains in custody and Zacharias says there is no risk to the public.
