Province seeks public input on Massey Tunnel replacement project

The B.C. government says the environmental assessment certificate for the George Massey Tunnel project has been submitted, and it is asking for feedback.
From now until June 23, the public can review the application and comment.
“People are invited to provide feedback to the Environmental Assessment Office on the application to ensure it includes all the studies and information required to assess the potential positive and negative impacts of the project,” the government said in a news release.
The new tunnel will have four lanes, including one dedicated to transit, in each direction. As well, it will have a path for pedestrians and cyclists.
Improvements to Highway 99 are already underway, the province says.
“These include replacement of the Steveston Highway Crossing with a new five-lane interchange,” it said.
“The first half of the new interchange is open to vehicles, with the second half under construction. The new interchange will be completed later in 2025.”
Two open houses will be held: on June 4 at Delta Hotels Vancouver Delta/Cascadia Casino and Conference Centre and on June 5 at the UBC Boathouse.
