Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim speaks from City Hall in Vancouver on Thursday November 21, 2024.

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim will be speaking to media later Thursday afternoon to address public safety alongside the city’s police department.

In a statement, Sim said he is calling on the provincial and federal governments for more action to prevent high-risk offenders from being released from custody.

The address comes after a man accused of a random attack on a tourist near the Stanley Park seawall was released from custody this week and put on house arrest.

Sim and Police Board Chair Frank Chong are expected to speak live and answer questions from City Hall at 5 p.m.
