A massive police presence descended on downtown Vancouver Thursday night after a man was allegedly seen with a gun entering a residential building.

The Vancouver Police Department says that a patrolling officer was flagged down by someone in the area around 7 p.m., telling him they saw him enter the building near Seymour and Nelson streets with the weapon.

More than 25 police officers responded to the incident, they say, and the suspect was found about two hours later in a taxi with a number of other people.

“He refused to surrender and did not comply with direction from the officers. A police dog and an ARWEN gun, which fires hard, plastic less-lethal bullets, were deployed during the arrest,” Sgt. Steve Addison shared on Friday.

The 30-year-old man was eventually arrested on a Canada-wide warrant after allegedly breaching his parole conditions.

He remains in custody and is now facing additional charges for possession of a gun, police say.
