6 residents displaced after fire in East Vancouver Thursday

Six people have been displaced after a house fire in East Vancouver Thursday afternoon, Vancouver Fire Rescue says.
Assistant Fire Chief Jarret Gray says crews were called to the home, located at East 45th Avenue and Rupert Street, where they found a fire in the kitchen.
“People were cooking before,” Gray said. “We do not know if that was the cause at this time. So the fire continued on through the roof. [Crews] knocked down the fire, ripped down the ceilings, exposed and it was contained just to the kitchen area.”
Gray says the displaced residents will be unable to go home for “quite a few months.”
“There was extensive damage in the kitchen and also water damage throughout the house,” he said.
In total, 30 firefighters were called in to help put out the blaze.
There was no damage to surrounding houses, and no injuries have been reported. Gray says the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
