One person was arrested after Abbotsford police say an argument ended with two other people being hit by a car Wednesday.

Const. Art Stele, media relations officer at the Abbotsford Police Department, tells The Leader Spirit police were called by paramedics to the area of Carlsrue Avenue and Victoria Street at 2:44 p.m.

When they arrived, Stele says police determined that the incident was “predated by an argument.”

The two pedestrians were taken to the hospital, one with minor injuries and the other with no visible injuries, for assessment.

Stele says the driver of the vehicle “is in custody and investigators are talking to witnesses at the scene” to assess the factors that led to the event.

Stele tells The Leader Spirit the man was arrested for assault with a weapon — which in this case is considered the vehicle — “with an early statement indicating that person had intentionally driven towards the pedestrian.”

It’s unclear if impairment was a factor in this incident.

Abbotsford police are now canvassing the area for video footage. Investigators add the public is not at risk.

The vehicle in question has been removed from the scene.
