B.C. killer Kelly Ellard arrested after breaching release conditions

A high-profile B.C. killer was arrested in the Lower Mainland this week after allegedly breaching the conditions of her release.

Convicted murderer Kelly Ellard, who now goes by Kerry Sim, was picked up by Surrey RCMP members after Correctional Services Canada put out a nationwide warrant for her arrest, 1130 NewsRadio has learned.

She is said to have broken her conditions, but it’s unclear which ones.

Sim has been living at a local halfway house and it’s likely she has been released following her arrest.

Sim, who had two children behind bars, was convicted of second-degree murder in the 1997 death of 14-year-old Reena Virk.

She was among a group of teens who beat and drowned Virk near Saanich on Vancouver Island. Sim was handed a life sentence and her periodic day parole was renewed last year after the Parole Board of Canada felt she had shown good behaviour and increased accountability for her actions.

Some of Sim’s release conditions included not consuming drugs or alcohol, no contact with Virk’s family, and reporting any relationships and friendships to the parole board. She also has a lifetime ban against owning weapons.

In a statement, CSC says, “With respect to information regarding Kerry Sim, we are unable to disclose personal information regarding an offender without their consent.”
