Fire breaks out at gas station northeast of Chilliwack Saturday

A fire broke out Saturday at the Shell gas station on Bridal Falls Road in Rosedale, northeast of Chilliwack.
Pictures posted online show flames and smoke rising from the station, located at 53560 Bridal Falls Road.
Corp. Madonna Sauderson with the BC RCMP confirmed to 1130 NewsRadio shortly before 12:30 p.m. that emergency crews are on the scene on Bridal Falls Road.
“We are assisting the fire department at a gas station, Emergency Health Services — so B.C. Ambulance — and fire are on scene,” Saunderson said.
She was unable to provide any further details.
Cairith Koehler Turner says the fire was visible while driving on Highway 1 from Hope to Chilliwack.

“We saw a lot of black smoke,” Koehler Turner said.
“And as we started to come through Bridal Falls, we could see that there were flames coming out of the Shell gas station. And as we got closer, we could see that there was a motorhome under the awning at the first set of pumps just outside the front doors, and it was fully engulfed.”
She says the flames were massive with black plumes of smoke.
“There was one person, my husband said, that had a hose, and there were a lot of bystanders around, and no one had pulled the motorhome out,” she said.
“It was just sitting under there, right beside all the pumps. And you could see the pumps were starting to catch and so was the awning.”
Koehler Turner says she is surprised that people were standing around the gas station as the fire continued.
“[This] is just mind-blowing to me, because it’s fast, it’s going to go up, and if that thing blows, it’s not going to be pretty, right?”
There is no word on any injuries.
The Chilliwack Fire Department says access to Bridal Falls off of Exit 135 is closed for the time being. Expect delays in the area.
