Owner of destroyed Langley barn says she was attacked by handyman before fire

The Langley RCMP says it has not made any arrests in connection to a massive fire that destroyed a barn in Langley Township Friday.

Police say when first responders arrived on scene around 11:45 a.m., they found a barn on 102B Avenue west of 208 Street engulfed in flames.

According to the owner, she was attacked by a handyman working on this property and she suspects he was the person responsible for starting this fire.

The Leader Spirit hasn’t been able to confirm this with police.

The owner, who says she didn’t want to show her face on camera because she had bruises from the alleged attack, says she got into a fight with a hired hand who was living on the property.

“He attacked me with a machete and beat me up and everything, pulled me by the hair and everything, dragging me off the property… I was trying to get help and everything, because I was screaming for help,” she said

“And then I didn’t know what was going on …and then I turned around and saw my place up in flames, and I had a lot of birds in there. I had pigs and rabbits. I had baby goats that I was bottle feeding.”

The road was closed off Friday afternoon and a police search took place in nearby bushes and fields.

Police would not confirm if they were looking for a suspect, a witness, another person of interest, or the handyman the owner described.

Police did confirm that no people were injured in the fire. They said they are still speaking with everyone involved, and they’re urging anyone with information on this incident to call the Langley RCMP and speak with an investigator.
