Delays, cancellations after runway issue at YVR

A runway construction issue is causing delays and cancellations at the Vancouver International Airport Friday afternoon.
YVR says travellers are asked to check the latest flight information with their airline after an “unforeseen equipment issue” with a overnight paving work on the north runway.
In a statement to 1130 NewsRadio, a representative for the airport said the equipment issue was resolved and paving work will continue Friday evening, but flights on the north runway will not.
“For the remainder of the day, YVR will be operating exclusively using our South Runway. At this time, some flights are delayed, and 25 out of 753 flights have been cancelled,” said the statement.
For those already waiting at YVR, it says airport team members are ready to help connect passengers with their airline representatives.
Built in the 1990s, the airport’s north runway is currently undergoing $133-million worth of modernization improvements expected to continue until October.
